About Dan

Originally from the United Kingdom, Dan Shewan is a nonfiction writer who now lives and works in Rhode Island. 

Dan’s essays and narrative nonfiction have appeared in a wide range of publications, from national newspapers to small literary journals. His essays often explore addiction, substance abuse, and mental health, in addition to literary commentary and criticism. Dan’s work has appeared in Barrelhouse, The Rumpus, Vol. 1 Brooklyn, Full Stop, Literary Mama, and Pithead Chapel, among others.

An experienced freelance journalist, Dan also writes long-form features that focus on the intersection of technology, politics, religion, and culture. He has written about topics ranging from the political activism of The Satanic Temple and the threats posed by the sovereign citizen movement, to the impacts of climate change and the potential dangers of robotic automation. His journalism has been featured in The Guardian, The Independent, Pacific Standard magazine, Dig Boston, and other outlets. 

Beyond his online body of work, Dan’s writing appears in Missing Providence: A Frequency Anthology, published by Frequency Writers in 2015. He is currently writing a longer work of nonfiction.
